The Germans, many of whom escaped in mufti, extensively demolished N'iarvik before abandoning the town. They also tried to wreck the railway to Sweden, destroying seven engines and blowing up points and signals. Narvik station still stands. The! few civilian casualties demonstrate the accuracy of the British naval fire.
