NATIONAL SERVICE IN ITALY.
EVERYONE OVER AGE OF 14. ROME, May 25. A by-law published in the official Gazette this morning states that all citizens and property can be requisitioned, and women and children over 14 mobilised for civilian services under military discipline. The sailing of the liner Conte do Savoia for New York on June 12 has been postponed to June 20, and the sailing of the Neptunia. to June 21. Eighteen hundred Americans , are stranded in Italy as a result of the postponement of. the sailing of the Rex., Many have already (paid premiums of £4OO for a berth.
It is reported from the Vatican City that Cardinal Maglione (Papal Secretary of State), has written to all diplomatic representatives asking for ah immediate reply stating whether they desire accommodation in the Vatican City in the event of their countries going to war against Italy. All Embassies and Legations accredited to the Holy See are now situated outside the boundaries of the Vatican City.
