WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.

MEETING OF ASHBURTON BRANCH. The Ashburton Women’s Institute met yesterday the president (Mrs G. M. Breeze) presiding. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect for the late Mrs D. A. Morgan, and in sympathy with those who have recently been bereaved. Mrs Coateis read a .report on the meeting of the Mid-Canterbury Federation. It, was decided to donate £1 Is to the Sick and Wounded Fund. Wool was distributed' to members for knitting for the- Red Cross Society. The Rev. A. Mcßean spoke on “Waitnngi.” Competitions resulted: Bloom. Mrs H. Hefford 1, Mrs Stoddart 2. Truss, Mrs Sedcole 1, Mrs Hefford. senr. 2. Double chrysanthemum, Mrs Hayston 1 Single, Mrs Sedcole 1. The hostesses were Mesdames Aitken H. Amos, A. Amos, W. Barrett, F. Baker, H. McLean and J. Bland,
