PRECAUTIONS IN BRITAIN.

DEFENCES ON SOUTH COAST.

LONDON, May 24

Precautions have been taken against o-surprise German invasion across the English Channel. Heavily-armed naval units occupied the pier of one south coast town, while troops hurriedly constructed sand-bag-ged machine-gun posts on the promenade.

Strong naval forces could be fjeen patrolling off the shore. The pier was mined ready for'demolition if necessary.
