TO WORK OVERTIME.
WATERS IDERS AT LYTTELTON LOADING OVERSEAS VESSELS (Per Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Owing to the urgent necessity for dispatching two overseas vessels now at Lyttelton to the United Kingdom, watersiders at Lyttelton have consented to work overtime after the usual hours. This decision follows requests made by the shipping companies’ representatives through the Waterside Control Commission and National Workers’ Federation.
In the ease of one ship, overtime work was done on Thursday night until 11 p.m., and last night the two vessels were worked until 11 o’clock in an effort to dispatch one of the vessels late; to-night. Overtime will be continued until 11 o’clock to-night, butit was reported this morning that if loading could not be completed by that- time work would ho resumed tomorrow morning at 8 o’clock. The other vessel will leave this afternoon for Wellington and work will he continued on her there at 8 o’clock tomorrow morning. Overtime'will he paid at the awprd rate of os 4d an hour.
