HOCKEY.
THE WOMEN’S ASSOCIATION. SIX SENIOR TEAMS ENTER. Two more entries, one senior and one junior, have been received for the competitions of the Ashburton Women s Hockey Association. Six teams are now entered in the senior grade and seven in the junior. The draw for Saturday is as follows: Senior—Methven v. Rakaia, at Methven, 3 p.m.; Hinds v. Lowcliffe, at Hinds, 3 p.m.; Tinwald v. Ashburton, at Ashburton (practice game), 3 p.m. Juniors—Methven v. Rakaia, at Methven, 2 p.m.; Hinds V. Lowcliffe, at Hinds, 2 p.m.; Ashburton a bye. The junior match between Wakanui and Technical High School will be played when the school resumes after the term holidays.
METHVEN ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Methven Ladies’ Hockey Club wlas held in the Town Hall, the president (Mrs G. Johns) presiding over an attendance of over 30. Three new members were elected. The report stated that the last season had been enjoyable and successful. The senior team had had a fair measure of success. The juniors had won the County competition and the Ashburton South Canterbury six-a-side tournaments and were runners-up to Rakaia at the Methven tournament:
The balance sheet showed a sound position, the profit for the year being £25 3s 4d.
It was reported that the executive had made a loan free of interest to the, war loan of £25. This action was confirmed. The secretary detailed l the efforts made to obtain petrol for travelling and although nothing definite had been promised so far it was hoped to be able to make suitable arrangements for travelling to matches. The election of officers resulted:— Patron, Mr W. J. Halliday: president, Mrs G. Johns; .vice-presidents, Mesdames W. J. Owen, FI. A. Fitzgibbon, F. Brown,' A. W. McKendry and Mr W. J. Dolan; honorary secretary, Mr G. Johns; honorary treasurer, Mr W. J. Owen ; selectors, Mr W. J. Owen and team captains; committee, Mesdames A. McCormack, G. King, M. Freeman, G. Cleave and F. Jewell and Mr E. A. Fitzgibbon; delegates to Ashburton Ladies’ 'Hockey Association, Messrs G. Johns (Methven) and A. C. Vincent (Ashburton). It was decided to enter « senior and a junior team in the County competitions.
Mrs Johns thanked members for her re-election as president for the eighth successive year. '
