SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
FLEMINGTON, At a recent meeting of the Flemington School Committee, when the chairman (Mr W. B. Bryant) presided, there was a full attendance of members. The hen dm aster’s report stated that tho Board’s inspector Mr J. IP 1 . Hawke, had made tho biennial examination of the children. The report of the agriculture instructor, Mr J. Billings, showed that a high standard of work in agriculture, nature study and science was being maintained. A letter from the Canterbury Education Board congratulated the School upon its success in the garden competitions for 1939, the school being, placed first equal in the Ashburton County open competition, second equal in, the open section of the McFarlane Shield competition, and first in the sole charge sections of both the McFarlane Shield and Ashburton County competitions. It was reported that the children were continuing their swimming instruction, this year at the Willowby School baths. It was decided to take advantage again of the service provided by the Canterbury Travelling Library ij Rural Schools.
Favourable comment was made upon the conduct of the grouo show of the Eiffelton grouo of the Schools’ Agriculture Clubs of which the senior children of the school are members.
