THE ASHBURTON MARKET. . Prices at the fruit and produce market at Ashburton yesterday were as follow \— Cabbages—New season’s, 3d to 4d. Chaff—4s to 4s 6d a sack. Potatoes—ld and lid lb, 3/6 a sugarbag. Wheat—lßs and-203 a sack. Honey—Sd and 9d a lb. Onions—New season’s'lid and 2d lb, 4s. 6d to 5s . a sugar-bag. Bacon—lOd and Is a lb. Apples—New season’s Worcester Permains 5s 6d and 6s 6d, Cox’s Orange 6s 6d and 7s a case.. Lettuce—2d and 3d each. Green Peas—2s to 2s 6d a peck. Tomatoes—2kl and 3d lb. Peaches—3d and 4d lb. Grain and produce markets have shown little change this week. Milling wheat • lias practically ceased to come •forward and the general opinion among merchants and millers is that comparatively little is being held for the increment which goes on next month. Little business is passing in seeds, for which the autumn demand seems to he well past its peak. A few lines of cocksfoot are being offered from time to time, and values vary according to quality. Sales of potatoes have taken place at £3 a ton, and- that is still the quotation for more distant stations with £3 5s being offered at the handier stations. Partridge peas are coming forward fairly freely and merchants are offering from 6s 9d to 7s, according to. station and quality.

The following quotations are to farmers on trucks at country sidings, unless otherwise indicated:— Wheat-Milling, f.0.b., Tuscan 5s 6d, Hunters 5s Bd, Pearl 5s lOd, Marquis Gs.
