ENTERTAINMENTS.

ST. JAMES THEATRE. Screening to-night and commencing at 7.45 p.m. is an excellent bracketed programme with “Fools for Scandal” and “Mr Reeder in Room 13.” A riotous comedy with music “Fools for Scandal” stars Carole Lombard and Fernand Gravet,' the film fairly sparkles with wit, speed and fun throughout. It is impossible not.to bo thrilled by Edgar Wallace’s thriller “Mr Reeder in Room 13.” The story has tho unexpected twists so essentially Edgar Wallace and the film ends with much excitement and no little humour to its credit. Now definitely in the “young lady class,” Deanna Durbin appears in her sixth picture “First Love,” commencing at the matinee to-morrow. In its seasons in New Zealand to date “First Love” has topped all previous records for her films and when one considers the successes already scored, Ashburton threatregoers are assured of entertainment that hold appeal for all. Music, comedy and romance are deftly intertwined while a strong cast in support of the star rais** “First Love” to the peak of entertainment. In addition to “One Fine Day,” from Puccinis opera “Madame Butterfly,” Deanna sings three numbers of less difficult nature. One is the old favourite, “Home, Sweet Home,” by John Howard Payne. The others are “Amapola,” ,by J. M. Lacalle, and “Spring in My Heart,” a medley of Straus tfaltzes.
