MINISTER IN GAOL
ONE MONTH’S HARD LABOUR. WELL-KNOWN PACIFIST SPEAKER OBSTRUCTION OF THE POLICE. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, This Day. Ormond Edward Burton, a minister of religion, and William Daniel O’Reilly; a labourer, were charged in the Magistrate’s Court to-day with having obstructed the police in the execution of their duty, and each wore sentenced to one month’s imprisonment with hard, labour.
The Magistrate (Mr J. L. Stout) said it was quite evident, from what was happening in other centres, that if meetings were allowed to continue there would most likely be disorder and possibly bloodshed.
