INDIA’S FUTURE.
DOMINION STATUS ISSUE. APPEAL TO THE PARTIES. (United Press Association —Copyright.) (Received This Day, 9.5 a.m.) BOMBAY, January 1L The Viceroy (the' Marquess of Linlithgow) in a speech appealed to the various parties to get together and reach some agreement which would facilitate the governments dealing with the vital question of Indian Constitutional progress. He said that the Government was determined to see that justice was done. While Parisan newspapers are professedly suspicious Lord Linlithgow’s speech is considered as an indication that Britain intends seriously to take up the question of Dominion status for India. The “Hindu, stan Standard” says the proposals are enlightening. They admit for the first time since the outbreak of the war that the Viceroy is earnestly attempting to descend to the level of ordinary mortals and speak their language. “Advance” says that if Britain is sincere India will got Dominion status. The “Amritabazar Patriki” says it is worse than futile for Britain to change her policy and appeal to parties to make up their differences.
