PROGRESS OF THE FARM WORK MEETING OF THE BOARD. The last meeting of the Ashburton High (School Board of Governors for the present year was held in the office of the secretary this morning when there were present Dr. G. I. Miller (chairman), Messrs H. CL B. Withell, J. Brown, E, H. Orr, M. Bruce, G. C. Nicoll, and F. Frampton.

The Headmaster (Mr E. A. Cockroft) reported that since last meeting the furniture for the new rooms had arrived and the rooms were in use. He sought permission to secure supplies ot chemicals, etc., for next year. One more sewing machine was reemired The grant this year was over £l5O aiid the science equiment necessary would be smaller than usual. The examination for the John Bell scholarships will be held on Tuesday morning. There were four candidates. It would be necessary to fix a meeting to allot the scholarships 1 . The vocational Guidance Officer from Lincoln College would show a film and give a talk on Thursday concerning the activities of Lincoln College. Farm Report.—Shearing had been completed and five* bales of wool had been sent to a Christchurch wool store. Three tons of lucerne hay had been baled in good order and 1 this ensured a reserve for winter feeding. The new lucerne area was ready for sowing. After cultivation it received a dressing of one ton of lime and two cwt of superphosphate to the acre. The necessary culture for inoculation of the seed had been obtained from the Department of Agriculture and. after treatment, the seed will be sown. A strip, one machine width, had been left without any addition of lime in order to demonstrate the value of this substance in the growth of leguminous plants shell as lucerne'. Stock at November 30, sheep 250, horses '4. Messrs J. W. Bowden, J. Brown and G. C. Nicoll were appointed a committee to act with the Mayor (Dr. Miller) and the County Chairman. '(Mr H. J. Crothers) in the final selection of the John Bell Scholarship holders. This committee will meet at noon on Saturday. The financial statement showed that there was a credit balance of £4l 10s fid.
