INDICATION IN ITALY.

NEWSPAPERS PRAISE DEFENDERS.

(Received This Day, 11.25 a.m.) ROME, December 3.

Indignation against Russia increases hourly. The Soviet Embassy is carefully guarded in expectation of further demonstrations. .

Newspaper accounts from Finland all sympathise with the defenders. The “Mcssagero” pays a tribute to the accuracy of Finnish artillery, stating that it knocked out 30 tanks in one battlo near Petsamo and adding: “Largo units of parachutists landed behind the Karelian defences but were wiped out after a bitter struggle.” The “Popolo Di Roma” declares that the Finns found that many of the Russians whom they have taken prisoner are suffering from scurvy and lack of warm clothing.

SWEDEN’S PRECAUTIONS.

LONDON, December 3.

Scandinavia is with Finland to a man. Sweden has suspended all military leave and is strengthening her defences.

CHRISTMAS! BROADCAST

LONDON, December 1

The British Broadcasting Corporation announces that the Christmas Day Empire broadcast with the King’s Speech will be on the same scale as in previous years. The programme will include a microphone tour of the south of England, the Midlands, Wales, the north of England, Northern Ireland 1 , and Scotland, followed it is hoped, by items representing all three fighting services.

Speakers from Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, and South Africa will follow. Malaya will represent the Colonial Empire.—British Official Wireless.
