“TOVIARCH.”
DELICIOUS COMEDY. The exodus of refugees from Russia after the revolution resulted* in some extraordinary situations princes be came paupers, aristocrats found themselves driving Parisian taxis, and wealthy bourgeois were forced to menial tasks. With their touch of mysticism, derived from their dash of Eastern blood, the followers of the Czar nevertheless found some humour in their situation. “Toviarcli,” AVarner Brothers’ fine, film, starring Claudette Colbert and Charles Boyer captures the spirit of the emigres admirably. As a stage play the adventures of an exiled prince and a grand duchess have thrilled and delighted audiences all over the world, but. the film has a wider scope which makes it all the .more attractive. Others in the strong cast include Basil Ratlibone, Melville Cooper, Anita Louise, Heather Thatcher, Isabel Jeans, Morris Carnovsky, and Maurice Murphy. Claudette Colbert sings two songs, “Rasposhal,” a lullaby, and “Slito Mnie Joie,” while Bover sings the Volga boat song in Russian.
