METHVEN NEEDS.
THE DRAINAGE OUTFALL. t REQUESTS BY RATEPAYERS. The unsatisfactory state and insanitary conditions of the outfall from the Methven township drainage septic tank led to a visit to the locality by members of the Methven committee on Tuesday evening. • • At tho outfall a miniature lake lias formed and is of some depth of water, covered with a green slime and emitting a strong smell. It was decided to request the County Council to take immediate steps to abate the nuisance as it had been the subject of objection by several ratepayers. it was also decided to request the council to,compel ratepayers to remove overhanging fences on the streets in the township and cut back hedges on several corners which are dangerous to traffic.
It was considered that with tho recent shingling the footpaths wore left in too rough a .state and a request is to be made that the council apply binding material.
Another decision was to arrange, inspection of the water supply catchments with a view to ‘ suggesting improvements and to meet Messrs Carr and Campion, and local riding members of the Council, to suggest several improvements to the township’s roads and surface drainage. Thanks were expressed, to the Council for its prompt attention to previous requests and improvements effected,. Mr W. A. Shemeld was in the chair. -
