FRIENDLY SOCIETY.
CHRISTCHURCH COMPETITIONS, SUCCESSES FOR TINWALD. Eight members of the Tinwald Girls’ Friendly Society, with their leader, Mrs H. A. Childs,- went to Christchurch last evening for the annual break-up of the combined classes in Canterbury. Several members were successful in tho competitions. The branch entered a part-song and tableaux.
St. Michael’s won the part-song with 78 points and Timvald was second with 76 points. The judge (Mr Worsley) spoke very favourably of the performance of the Tinwald group. Seven branches competed. In the tableaux, which was judged by Miss Ngaio Marsh, who also gave helpful criticism, Tinwald were placed fourth. Eight branches competed. Timvald also won the prize for the best-dressed doll. Individual winners were:— Smocking, Miss Ngaio Houston 1; essay, Miss Helen Sewell poem, Miss Mae Bushell 2; tray cloth, Miss Mae Bushell 2.
