TRANSPORT INDUSTRY.
GOVERNMENT AND PRIVATE FIRMS. (Per press Association). WELLINGTON, November 17. In a statement to-day the Hon. R. vSemplo emphatically denied the assertion by the Hon. Adam Hamilton that the Government’s policy aimed l at wiping out private transport interests. He quoted resolutions passed by transport operators expressing: appreciation of what the Government had done' to reorganise the industry, and offering full co-operation. Mr Semple said that the amazing thing was that Mr Hamilton made his statement at Patiatua after having been assured by operators themselves that there was no such thing as confiscation, commandeer or dictatorship as suggested by Mr Hamilton.
Mr Semple recalled saying recently that as long as private enterprise gave satisfactory and! efficient transport service, the Government was. more than happy to leave the job to private enterprise.
