AN ATTRACTIVE FILM. Based on the novel by Marco Page, “Fast Company,” is. an entertaining blend of romance, comedy and adventure, with a strong cast 'headed by Melvyn Douglas and Florence Rice. They take ' the roles of Joel and Garda Sloane, a young married couple who trade in rare hooks. An insurance company uses Joel’s services as an adjuster whenever rare books are the subject of a claim. When a friend of theirs, Ned Morgan (Shepperd Strudwick) is charged with theft of some rare hooks from a collector, Otto Brockler (George Zucco), the Sloanes start an investigation into the latter’s affairs. The perplexities that baffle the two amateur sleuths are discussed between them in a breezy, humorous way that adds much to the entertainment of the picture, while a dash of romance is added by Shepperd Strudwick and Mary Howard. * * * * The new baby star “Sandy” heads the cast of “Unexpected Father,” in which Miseha Auer, Dennis O’Keefe, Shirley Ross and Joy Hodges are featured. * «■ * * “The Spy in Black,” featuring Conrad Veidt and Valerie Hobson, and “Ten Days in Paris,” with Rex Harrison and the new British star Karen Verne, two further English films have been completed by Columbia at their Denham studios.
