“THE HOUSEMASTER.”
lAN HAY STORY. “Housemaster,” the Associated British picture is one of the best and brightest British films produced. Its cast is perfect, containing as it does such front-rank players as Otto Kruger, Diana Churchill, Phillips Holmes, and Rene Ray, and such character actors as P. Kynaston Reeves, • Walter Hudd, Michael Shepley and Joyce Barbour.
The story, although it has comedy predominating, is human and sympathetic. Adapted from lan Hay’s play, it tells the story of a middleaged housemaster, devoted to bis boys, who finds that the newly-appointed head master is trying to force him to resign. Action becomes swift when the housemaster’s three pretty wards descend on the school, upsetting the routine and almost causing a mutiny. Otto Kruger has the title vole, while there is a charming romance between the young science master (Phillips Holmes) and the eldest ward (Diana Churchill). *•*•**• “21 Days,” based oft the story, “The First and the Last” by John Galsworthy, starring Vivien (Scarlett O’Hara) Leigh, Lmirene Olivier and Leslie Banks, is now in production.
