BULLETS AT SYDNEY.
FALL ON RESIDENCES. AN ACCIDENTAL DISCHARGE. | .United Press Association —Copyright.; SYDNEY, November 14. Residents on the harbour front at Double Bay, Rose Bay and Waverley received a scare to-day when machinegun bullets fell on their homes, in their gardens and on the streets. Nobody was reported injured. The explanation of the incident came from the naval authorities, who stated that' the bullets were accidentally discharged from an outgoing cruiser while a belt was being fixed to a machinegun which fires from four barrels simultaneously. The gun barrels were sharply elevated and tlio majority of the bullets flew in a high arc. MANY PIERCE CEILINGS. RESIDENTS FEAR- AIR RAID. (Received This Day, 12.25 p.m.) LONDON, November 14. Within ten seconds the complete bolt of 200 rounds was discharged, but it is believed that only about 30 bullets fell in, the suburbs. Many • pierced ceilings and fell into rooms. Tlie police stations received telephone inquiries from residents who feared that an air raid was in --''ores.s. Fifty police were, sent to suburbs affected to reassure householders.
