AUSTRALIAN’S EXPERIENCES. AUCKLAND, November 14. Experiences since the outbreak of war Avcire related by F. Hurley, an Australian Rugby League footballer returning home after'playing-'several seasons in England. He is accompanied by three Australian cricketers, J. E.Walsh, J. G. Lush, and V. E. Jackson, until recently members of Sir Julien Cahn’s team. “In Hull there Avas hit air raid ,on the first night, of the Avar,’’ said Hurley; “the all-clear signal was given two hours later. There were aeroplanes about, but the -people could not tel! whether they Avere British or enemy machines.” Hurley left Liverpool on September 16 on a A'essel which Avas convoyed by tAvo destroyers. Three hours out in the Atlantic the destroyers located a submarine and later reported that it had been sunk. The destroyers droppea- five depth charges andthe vibration Avas felt on the ship. Before reaching Montreal the captain told them that they had to thank the British Navy .for their safe, passage as a British aeroplane which flew over on the second day out had signalled him, to change his course. ;.'
