CHERTSEY DISTRICT.
THE WEATHER AND CROPS. NEED FOR EARLY BATN. The weather lately has been boisterous and hot with the the north-west winds. Rain is badly needed for all crops. On present appearances there will bo very little grass seed saved and what there is- will bo mostly one-year-old seed. With a continuance of the present weather -grass will soon be scarce, as it is now running to seed and is very short and there is also a poor prospect of any hay being saved. Oats are coming into ear in many paddocks, and as the straw is very short prospects are not bright. The wheat is looking well and has stooled much better than it did last yead, but where the wheat is thick it has a yellow appearance. Some of the wheat is about two feet high on tho light land already, and early rain is needed. On tho other hand, some of tho later sown crops are a rich colour, and look remarkably good. Peas have been sown this- year earlier than usual but there is not tho usual acreage.
The average acreage of potatoes has been planted, hut in some cases the seed sown has been on the small side. Lupins are being saved for seed.
