POLISH DEBACLE
SURRENDER OF WARSAW. MODLIN ALSO CAPITULATED. <b OFFICERS RETAIN SWORDS. (United Press Association—Copyright.; (Received This Day, 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, September 29. The AVarsaw Defence Command announces that it has been agreed that the city and its garrison shall be taken over by the German armed forces at rioon to-day. The fortress of Modlin has also surrendered, according to the German High Command. Two hundred officers and 30,000 men surrendered unconditionally at Modlin. The German High Command states that all the Polish officers at AVarsaw will )>e given an honourable captivity and will be allowed to retain their swords. Non-commissioned officers and men will be demobilised. The disarmed garrison of AVarsaw will begin to leave the city! this evening. The German forces will occupy the city on Monday. 4000 WOUNDED AT MODLIN, (Received This Day, H a.m.) BERLIN, September 28. A communique states that the disarmed garrisons begins to leave Warsaw to-night. German troops will enter on Monday. The fortress of Modlin lias surrendered uliconditionally. The garrison numbers 30,000, of whom 4000 are wounded.
