A BIG INCREASE.

MARRIAGES IN CHRISTCHURCH. (Per Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, September 20. The number of marriage licences issued in Christchurch during September this year more than doubled the total for the corresponding month last year. In September this year the number of licences was 243, and the total for September, 1038, was 106. Marriages by the Registrar this month totalled 44, compared with 28 for the period last year. A substantial increase is also shown in the number of births for the month compared with last year, the totals boing: 1939, 249; 1938, 193. There were; 133 deaths during the month, compared with 194 last year.
