RUGBY UNION.
MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEET The Management Committee of the Ashburton Rugby Union met last evening, the president (Mr N. Robilliard) presiding. In reply to a request from the Southern Club (Christchurch) that a match be arranged in the Ashburt-on district for its fifth grade team next Saturday, it was decided to state that a fixture would be arranged with the Methven fourth grade if possible. It was decided to close the third grade competition, and Old Boys were declared the winners. The question of the default of the Technical Old Boys team in the match arranged against Eakaia last Saturday was raised. It was stated that the club “made no apparent attempt to turn out a team.” It was decided to ask for an explanation and fine the club 10s. It was decided to hold an open seven-a-side tournament on September 23. It was decided to accept next Saturday as the date for the Jones-Davey Cup match between the Ashburton third grade representatives and the Christchurch Old Boys third grade team.
