RAYNER KNOCKS OUT SUMMERS. AUCKLAND, September 12. Two professional contests were featured on the Auckland Boxing Association’s programme. The main attraction Avas a light-AA-eight bout between Olnrrio Rayner, of Blenheim, 9st 91b, and Harry'.Summers, of Australia, 9st 51l>, The" match ended early in the second round in a Avin for Rayner on
a knockout, Rnyner, the light-weight champion . of New Zealand, had his opponent in difficulty with a powerful left hook to the jaw which lie followed up with a right uppercut to the solar plexus. The gong saved Summers from being counted out. and lie was still receiving attention from his seconds when the gong sounded for the opening of the third round. Summers was very distressed and it was some minutes before he was able, to leave the ring, the referee in the meantime having declared Rnyner the winner. The preliminary professional match between Brian McKay, Auckland. 9st njlb, and •Joe Collins, Palmerston North. 9st 121 b. ended in the Aucklander’s favour. At the conclusion of the seventh round Collins went to his corner holding his right hand and apparently distressed. The Association’s medical officer was called and Collins’ right glove was removed, after which lie was pronounced unfit to continue the contest.
