CASH-ORDER TRADING.
DEPARTMENTAL INQUIRY. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, September 7. As soon as certain inquiries are made from retailers, the. Department of Industries and Commerce will be in a position to advise the Government as to the operations of cash order trading companies, states the annual report of the department, which lias just been released. Certain strong representations had been made to the department about the aet'vit-ies of these companies-, said the reptrt, and the Government was asked to investigate alleged abuses that tended to disrupt certain of the retail trades. A Dominion-wide investigation was conducted and comprehensive details were obtained from companies. .Final inquiries were now being made from retailers. As soon as the final report was compiled, the department would bo able to recommend to the Government whether or not legislation should be introduced to control the position.
