On the first day of the challenge round of the Davis Clip competition the defending American team won both singles matches from the Australians. The results were : R. L. Riggs (United States) beat .T. Bromwich (Australia), 6-4, 6-0, 7-5. F. A. . Parker (United States) heat A. K. Quist (Australia), 6-3, 2-6. 6-1, 1-6, 7-o. AUSTRALIANS WIN DOUBLES (Received This Dav, 10.10 n.m.) NEW YORK, September 3. In the doubles Quist kind .Bromwich defeated Hunt and Kramer, 5-7. G-2, 7-5, 6-2. There was little to choose between the teams although their styles are considerably different. Hunt and Kramer have a cannonball service and are formidable smashers from midcourt. The Australians aro infinitely better volleyers.
