THE CHALLENGE ROUND SINGLES. ■ AMERICA WINS ROTH GAMES. % NEW YORK, September 2. On the first day of the challenge round of the Davis Clip competition the defending American team won both singles matches from the Australians. The results were : R. L. Riggs (United States) beat .T. Bromwich (Australia), 6-4, 6-0, 7-5. F. A. . Parker (United States) heat A. K. Quist (Australia), 6-3, 2-6. 6-1, 1-6, 7-o. AUSTRALIANS WIN DOUBLES (Received This Dav, 10.10 n.m.) NEW YORK, September 3. In the doubles Quist kind .Bromwich defeated Hunt and Kramer, 5-7. G-2, 7-5, 6-2. There was little to choose between the teams although their styles are considerably different. Hunt and Kramer have a cannonball service and are formidable smashers from midcourt. The Australians aro infinitely better volleyers.
