There is a general desire to avoid new contracts. Quotations are: Merinos: 70’s 64’s Crossbreds —58's 23d ; others not quoted. DAIRY PRODUCE IN LONDON. (Received This Day, 11.5 a.m.) LONDON, August 31. The butter market in inactive. Choicest New Zealand, salted and unsalted, 1245; Australian 116 s to 117 s, Danish 133 s to 1345. Cheese is firm. New Zealand white and coloured 60s to 61s. Australian spot stocks are cleared. PIGS AND POULTRY. PRICES IN ASHBURTON. The following prices were realised at the weekly sale of pigs and poultry in Ashburton to-day. Poultry—Roosters, 5s 4d to 5s 7d pair; hens, 5s Id to 6s 4d ; ducks 2s 7d to 4s Id. Pigs—Stores, 27s to 37s 6d ; weaners and slips 16s Gd to 2Gs Cd.
