SOUTHERN AREA ENLISTMENTS. UP TO PEACE ESTABLISHMENT. (Per Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Recruiting for military forces in the South Island has been proceeding at an accelerated pace during the last month. Every unit of the Territorial Army in the southern military district is now up to peace establishment and many of them are over it. This information was released by Colonel Bell, officer copimanding, this morning. At the end of July the total number of officers and men in all units' in the South Island numbered 4615. That total has been increased to £156. Volunteers for the National Military Reserve have also been rushing for enrolment forms during the last week. Last Monday morning the returns compiled in the Christchurch Military District showed that the total number of enrolments was 2319. This morning at 9 o’clock the total was 2631, an increase of 312. The largest increase on any single day of this week was recorded yesterday when 163 enrolments' were made. That figure represented the largest daily enrolment since the first week of the appeal and followed a parade of Reservists on Wednesday night at King Edward Barracks’.
DOMINION TOTAL NOW 19,161. INCREASE OF 367 YESTERDAY. WELLINGTON, This Day. The total enrolments of the New Zealand National Military Reserve to 9 a.m. to-day was 19,161. Of these class I, totals 2473; class 11. 7792; class 111. 5731; and those not eligible 3165. The increase of 367 enrolments since 9 a.m. yesterday is one of the highest to date’ It includes 209 ex-serviee-men.
