MR LOUIS WILLIAM WAIN.
FA3IODS ANIMAL CARICATURIST.
(United Press Association—Copy right.) (Received This Day, 10.55 a.m.) LONDON, July 5. 3lr Louis William "Wain, the famous artist, black-and-white draughtsman, and animal caricathrist, is dead, -aged. 78.
Mr Wain studied for the musical profession, but at the same time he undertook some study of art in London and in 1881 life was appointed Arts Master at the 3Vest London School of Art, soon after joining the staff of tho Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic Review, and it was then he first started to draw cats. After several other appointments, including one in America, he devoted most of his attention to drawing iand caricature work. , He was president of the National Cat Club, member of the committee of the Society for the Protection of cats, and on the committee of the Cats’ Home, Hammersmith, since 1896. He was a member of tho Grand Council of Our Dumb Friends’ League, member of tho committee of the Receiving Shelters for Stray Animals, and a member of the National Antivivisection Society.’ He published numerous books, and wrote and illustrated many short stories for magazines.
