OUTLET FOR POLAND BY CANAL
(Received This Day, 11.85 a.m.) *• : ' , : SUVA, This Day.
Sir Walter Carpenter; chairman of directors, of the Australian firm of W. R. Carpenter and Company, a passenger on the Mariposa, in an interview with the‘-‘Fiji Times and Herald” said that the sore spot in Europe was Danzig, whiclt whs composed. almost entirely of Geriiiaii citizens. It would never incorporate with Poland. To give it to Germany at‘ present would block Polancos only Yaccess to the sea. • !Sir Walter suggested cutting-a canal from the River Vistula to Gdynia, connecting Poland’s port with the Vistula and thus eliminating the necessity of using Danzig:) ? Germany,- Britain, Poland and France should be invited to contribute to the cost, which would be less than that of one day’s war.
