Mr E. B. Newton loft Ashburton last evening to represent the Ashburton County Racing Club at the New Zealand Racing Conference at Wellington.

Messrs W. J. Halliday (Methven), and J. P. McKendry v(Rakaia) have been elected members of the committee of the Canterbury Licensed Victuallers Association.

Mr E. C. Bathurst was sworn in as a member of the Ashburton Borough Council last evening. Expressing . a welcome to the new member, the ’Mayor (Dr. 0. I. Miller) referred to Mr Bathurst’s work for Allen ton over a long period and said members of the Council realised that he would in future work just ns enthusiastically for the Borough.

The Mayor (Dr. C. I. the deputy-Mayor (Dr. J. Connor) the Town Clerk (Mr R. C. Major), the County Chairman (Mr H. ,T. C'rothers), Mr J. Chirr (member of the County Council) and the County Clerk-(Mr G. Kelly) will go to Christchurch, tomorrow to attend a meeting of local ■body representatives to . discuss the question of raising funds to extend and bring the 'Christchurch Museum up-to-date, i The County delegates will attend the annual meeting of the Canterbury Progress League m the morning.

Mcsdames F. Johnson (member of the Dominion Advisory Board of the Womeai’s Division of the Farmers' Union) and G. Moore, of Lynnford (Mid-Canterbury (Provincial district president) will leave on Saturday evening for Wellington to attend the an nual conference of the Division,, which will start on Tuesday next. Mesdames J, 'Gregory, of Seafield (Mid-Canter-bury secretary), and J. Quantock, of Anama (Provincial vice-president) who are delegates from the executive, and Mesdames W. E. Bishop (Lynnford), H. Driscoll (Seaficld), Mangin (Methven), J. Shearer (Winchmore), Aschen (Mayfield), R. F. Hayman (Ashburton) and Miss P. Watson (Westerfield), who are delegates from the branches stated will leave on Monday evening.
