Many officers and soldiers have been arrested, and three officers committed suicide in order to avoid arrest. At Warsaw, a search was made, and the detectives discovered a terrible bomb, which was intended to use against the life of the Czar, The discovery of this recent plot lias completely prostrated her Majesty the Czarina, who has been suffering from nervousness since the accident to the Royal train on the Azov railway. Woollen Factory.—By the courtesy of Mr J. H. Twentyman we are enabled to state that on Saturday, that gentleman, on behalf of the Ashburton Woollen Factory Company, sold the premises and plant to the Mosgiel Woollen Manufacturing Company, who intend to carry on the Ashburton Factory with vigour. It will also be satisfactory to creditors of the Ashburton Company to learn that there is now every prospect of their claims being paid in full.
TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (From the “Guardian,” May 18, 1914.) The Ashburton Hospital.—The work of erecting the new entrance gates at 4 the Ashburton County Hospital was * completed by the Board’s contractor (Mr P. Norman) to-day. The gates, which form a fitting adornment to the improvements carried out on the grounds a month or two ago, are made of ornamental wrought iron. They have a width of 12 feet and are swung on massive cast-iron posts, each weighing one ton. The gates are inset a little from the present fence, and are approached by a carved piece of ornamental iron work, which itself is surmounted on a rough cast cement wall. A London firm, Messrs Bayliss, Jones and Bayliss, supplied the gates. Suffragette • Activities.—A message from London states that the grandstand and other buildings at the racecourse at Castle Bromwich were destroyed by fire, the damage being several thousands of pounds. Suffragette literature was found.
