FLOWER SHOW

FAIR HELD AT WAKANUI, TAKINGS EXCEED £IOO. MANY EXCELLENT EXHIBITS. V/• • ; * • A flower show and fair conducted in the Wakanui Hall by the Hall Society on Saturday attracted a good deal of .attention and a sum of over £IOO was taken. The entries were over £>oo. i '.Mr M. D. McDowell (president of the isociety) welcomed the visitors, and traced the history of the society. Declaring the show open, Mr F. Frampton congratulated the exhibitors On the high quality of the displays, and stressed the necessity for pride by the residents in their district.,. Many side-shows and stalls were held in conjunction with the show, and were well patronised. In the afternoon a programme of music was played by the Ashburton Silver Band, while a gymnastic display was given by St. Andrew’s Physical Culture Club in the evening. A novelty item was given'by .Messrs R. G. Ross and L. Tyler (Ashburton). v.vMr A. N. Grigg, M.P., who visited ' the show in the evening, presented the points awards. The judges were as follows: Flowers and vegetables, NVIr A. J. Millichamp; cookery and preserves, Mr S. Madden ; produce, Mr L. Nash; needlework, Mrs H. Stringfellow; photography, Mr E, J.
