ST. JAMES THEATRE. Music of Liszt and Gounod, old folk songs of the days of ’49, dreamy love melodies by Sigmund Romberg and sprightly Spanish airs all went into the picture of pioneer California in the music of “The Girl of the Golden West,” musical translation of the famous David Bielaseo play, with Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy,' which is still attracting' large audiences to the St. James Theatre. The film will conclude to-morrow. The songs include “Soldiers of Fortune,” a stirring march number sung by Nelson Eddy and the'bandits on horseback, and composed by Romberg with lyrics by Gus Kahn. These writers also wrote “Shadow's on the Moon,” a ballad sung by Miss MacDonald to an Indian baby in the picture; “Who Are We to Say,” the MacDonald-Eddy love 1 duet; “Senorita,” the Spanish * love song which Eddy sings in Spanish an later to Miss MacDonald in English; the “Mariachie,” a. lavish dancing spectacle wdth hundreds of dancevs and mounted vaqueros, with the song lyrics sung by Miss MacDonald and Eddy in Monterey fiesta sequence, and “The Wind in the Trees,” Miss MacDonald’s coloratura number. From the classics are drawn “Dream of Love” by Liszt, sung by Miss MacDonald in the Polka Saloon sequence, and Gounod’s “Ave Maria,” which she sings in the scene in the Monterey Mission. Players include Miss MacEddy, Walter Pidgeon, Leo Carrillo, Buddy Ebsen, Leonard-Penn, Priscilla Lawson, Bob Murphy, Olin Howland, and Cliff Edwards. . "
