PARISIENNE AND LUCKY JACK. the Parties exonerated. _ CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The running of Parisienno and Lucky Jack at For bury Park in January was discussed by thq Board of the New Zealand Trotting Association in committee yesterday, after which the following statement was issued: “On account of the great deal of adterse criticism expressed and published throughout the Dominion concerning the running of the horses Parisienno and Lucky Jack at the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting on January 26 and 28, it devolved on the New Zealand Trotting Association, as the governing body, to make inquiries in an endeavour to discover whether or not there was any justification for such criticism. The necessity arose from the fact that no normal inquiry had been initiated by the Forbury Park Trotting Club in the first instance, the only evidence being that contained in the report of the stipendiary steward. “The Association considered that the incident warranted a thorough investigation for the reasons that there is no evidence from a qualified veterinary surgeon in confirmation or refutation of the suggestion made by the owner of Parisienne to the stipendiary steward suggesting kidney trouble, as being responsible for the indisposition of the

mare, and that, there was no satisfactory explanation for the rapid recovery of the mare between the two days’ trotting. “After holding the inquiry yesterday, at which various witnesses were examined, the Association is unanimously of the opinion that the explanations and evidence adduced are satisfactory and exonerates the parties from any suggestion of malpractice and decided that no further action be taken.” PLACINGS REVERSED. WELLINGTON, March 10. Tiio judges of the Now Zealand Racing Conference ( Messrs E. L. Riddiford, H. P. F. Blundell, and W. E. Leicester) have reversed the plac-ings of the judge in the Raumai Handicap, ii'un at the Ashhurst-Poliangina Racing Club meeting on January 23. After this race the apprentice jockey J. Chaplin,- rider of Gav Chou, was charged by the stipendiary steward (Mr B. N. Sandilands) with interference and a breach of rule 289. The judicial committee of the club, however, decided that the judge’s placings should stand. An appeal against the decision of the committee was made to the Wanganui District Committee bj J. Manuel, owner of Sporting Gift but this appeal was dismissed. The stipendiary steward then appealed to the judges of the Racing Conference against the Wanganui Committee’s decision. His appeal is now upheld. The stipendiary steward further asked that in view of such interferenccthe judge’s placings be reversed, and that Sporting Gift be placed first and Gay Chou second. “Having heard the evidence, we are of the opinion that it has been esta.b lished that interference on the part oi Gay Chou prevented Sporting Gift Horn winning the Raumai Handicap, and that accordingly the position should be reversed,” the judgment stated. “Further evidence leaving us in a state of doubt whether the- riding of the jockey, J. Chaplin, was deliberately foul riding, we extend to him the benefit of such doubt.”
