The importers’ petition to the Gover-nor-General (Lord Gahvny) for the suspension of tho operation of the Import Control Regulations until their validity has been tested in the Supreme Court lias been forAvaided to Wellington. Bearing several thousand, signatures, the petition is signed- by merchants, shop and warehouse assistants, solicitors, accountants, farmers, commercial travellers, storemen, country storekeepers, and typists from all over Noav Zealand. Bound in rich broAvn suede leather, with gold lettering, tho petition is an impressive-looking document. The preamble contains a statement by the King on his ascension to the throne: “You may be assured that it is my determination to do all that lies Avithin my poAvcr to safeguard the liberties of my people and promote their prosperity and contentment,”
