FRUIT AND PRODUCE. THE ASHBURTON MARKET. Tho glut of peaches and nectarines on the Ashburton market continues, for plentiful supplies have been coming forward all the week. Despite the abnormal supply, due to the large crops this season, prices have been fairly well maintained. It is expected that the rush will ease off during next week. Bon Cretian and Duchess pears have appeared on the market. Prices were: Walnuts—6d to 8d lb. < Carrots: New 2d and 2'id a bunch. Cabbages—-Now season’s 5d and 6d. Chaff—2s 6d to 3s a sack. Potatoes—lcl lb. Wheat—2os to 21s a sack. Honey—Bd and 9d a lb. Onions— and 3d lb. Bacon—lOd to Is a lb. Lettuces—2d, 3d and 4d. Tomatoes —3d, 4d and 5d lb. Green Peas—2s 9d a peck. Turnips—2d a bundle. Peaches—2s 9d, 3s 6d to 4s 6d case. Apricots—2s 6d, 3s 6d and 4s. Nectarines—3s 6d, 4s 6d a case. Plums—2s to 2s 6d a. case. Marrows—Gd and 9d each. Runner Beans —4d lb. Blackberries—6d lb. New season’s apples—3d lb. Pears—Bon Cretian 2d to 3d, Duchess 2d to 2|d. GRAIN AND PRODUCE. THE DUNEDIN MARKET. DUNEDIN, March 3. Fowl wheat supplies are still short in Dunedin. Prices remain firm at 6s 9d a bushel, sacks extra, for best quality. The market for oats contint! es quiet and very little business has been passing. The. demand from the North Island is. small and only occasional inquiry is being received for oats for feed purposes. Merchants are finding it difficult to. sell the oats they are buying from farmers and prices are 2s 6d a bushel, sacks extra, on

trucks for A’s and 2s 3d for B’s. Some millers arc paying higher prices for lines heavy in condition and suitable for their requirements. There is good inquiry for Dun oats, but supplies are very short. Algerians are also readily saleable.

There is very little business in chad and only load lots arc inquired lor. Stocks are ample for present requirements and most of tho supplies are being drawn from Canterbury. The price is £6 10s a ton, sacks extra, for good quality. Little business is being done in potatoes, and values range from £8 to £9 a. ton, sacks included. The volume of business in the seeds market is small. The cocksfoot market remains unchanged. Deliveries from Akaroa and the Canterbury Plains have been fairly heavy. The quality is very good, most samples being heavier and brighter than last year. White clover is also appearing on the market, and the quality promises Lo be above the average. Fescue threshing continues and merchants are buying on the basis of Is 2d per lb for machine-dressed. Deliveries are expected to be more substantial* than they were.last season. Tho samples of crested dogs tail which have reached the market so far have been disappointing, and are hardly up to standard. THE LONDON MARKET LONDON, March 2. Wheat cargoes are steady. Chilled beef demand is slow owing to Lent, with supplies heavy. New Zealand light-weight porker pigs are easier, medium-weights firmer. Demand is quiet.
