CATHOLICS NEXT?

ALLEGED PLANS OF NAZIS. WEALTH OF CHURCH COVETED. REPORTED THREAT TO POPE. (United Press Association—Copyright.) (Independent Cable’Service.) (Received This Day,' 9 a.m.) LONDON, December 4. “Reynolds News” declared that Germany, having defined ghettos for Jews, is at present preparing to attack Catholics, easting covetous eyes on their wealth. The plans include a “fine” on Catholics to redeem their ‘churches and church property. The newspaper quotes Rosenberg’s recent speech: “The Catholic Church and also the Protestant Confessional Church,* in their present form must disappear from the life of our people.”

The “Sun Pictorial” declares that the Nazis are attempting to blackmail the Pope into withdrawing anti-Hitier propaganda by threatening the life of Dr. Schuschnigg, who is gravely ill in a one-roomed prison on the top of a Vienna hotel. It is believed that the Pope was preparing an , encyclical before his recent illness, denouncing religious and racial persecution.
