For doing a favour to a friend this man will lose a position he lias held with the City Corporation for 20 years, stated counsel, wlien Reginald Hector Gillan pleaded guilty in the Police Court to having been intoxicated while in charge of a car. The friend, who owned an old-model ear but could not drive, asked Gillan to drive him to his bach. The ear stalled and when Gillan was cranking it an inspector came on the scene.

Gillan, a motor driver by occupation, was sentenced to 14 days’ imprisonment and his licence was cancelled for T2 months.
