NEW FIRE-ENGINE.
ARRIVAL AT ASHBURTON Ashburton’s now fire engine arrived from Lyttelton at half-past this afternoon.
The vehicle caused a great deal of interest as it. passed along East Street and there was a fairly large number of people at the fire station when it arrived. Later in the afternoon a test was carried out, the Works Manager of the Colonial Motor Co. Ltd. (Mr 'Manning) demonstrating points to members of the brigade. The brigade first tested the engine inside .the Ashburton Domain, near the corner of West and Wills Street. Water was pumped from the lake, and two hoses brought into action. The water was played at a. very high pressure, and on one occasion when the lull force was on, three brigade men experienced difficulty in holding the hose.
The engine was taken along Park Street, opposite the Borough School, when further tests were carried out, this tilin' from a fire plug on the sido of tin' road. Water was played across tin l school ground. There were many interested spectators at both demonstrations.
