SOUR SAP IN TREES.
ORCHARDISTS FACE LOSS, * (Per Press Association.! HASTINGS, Nov. 7. Orchardists in low-lying and badly drained areas are now facing losses through sour sap, which is attributed to the flood conditions in Hawke’s Bay earlier in the year.
No estimate as to the likely loss has yet been made, hut it is reported that peach, nectarine, and to a lesser extent apple trees, are either dead or half-dead. Pears are not affected, for they thrive under wet conditions. Peach, nectarine, and plum trees not affected by sour sap show . signs of bearing one of the biggest crops recorded in the district.
