TOWN-PLANNING.

ALLENTON, METHVEN AND RAKAIA IN SCHEME. DECISION OF COUNTY COUNCIL. The decision to apply to the Minister of Internal Affairs for an Order-in-Council declaring Allenton, Methven, and Rakaia, town-planning areas, was made at the meeting of the Ashburton County Council yesterday.

The engineer (Mr H. A. Vezey) reported that the town-planning officer (Mr J. W. Mawson) and chief surveyor of the Lands and Survey Department (Mr Walshe) had visited Ashburton recently. They considered that Hinds and Mayfield were too small for townplanning areas, hut recommended that an Order-in-Council be applied for in the case of Allenton, Methven and Rakaia.

Air J. Carr asked if the question of AUentoii amalgamating} with the Borough had been 'brought up • The County Clerk (Air G. Kelly) said that the matter had been raised, but nothing definite had been heard about it. When Air AY. G. Gallagher suggested that something should be known about costs. Air Vezey stated that even after the Order-in-Council had been applied for it was not compulsory that the Council carry on with the planning scheme. If it was considered that the cost was too high it need not he gone on with.

It was agreed that town-planning arrangements could be made for A lionton in the meantime.
