ASHBURTON SHOW

THE SIXTY-SECOND DISPLAY. HIGHLY INTERESTING r EXHIBITION. THE CONCLUDING AWARDS. Judged by all standards that could be Supplied to it, the Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s sixtysecond annual show yesterday was an unqualified success. Every section of the display came into this category, and the large number of people Avho attended seemed to be thoroughly satisfied with what was presented for their entertainment or education, according to the light in which they looked at it. Much of the credit for this goes to the officials. The fact that everything had been mapped out beforehand made all the difference. The president (Mr S. P. Taylor) had the able and enthusiastic support, of his committee and the numerous marshals and stewards, to all of whom congratulations must be extended. The secretarial side of the show Avas, as usual, above criticism, thanks to the preliminary organisation of the secretary (Mr W. H. Amos). A loud speaker system Avas again in use and by this means patrons Avere able to keep in close touch with the progress of the shoAV, while it also served to broadcast messages to officials, at a great saving of time.

The Ashburton Silver Band and the Ashburton County Pipe Rand were in attendance throughout tlie afternoon, presenting programmes. The Silver Band marched in the main ring prior to the grand parade, and the Pipe Band led the parade, Avhich drew the attention of practically everyone on .the ground. The machinery display amazed most spectators. It Avas extensive and highly interesting and Avas a Avonderful demonstration of the modern trend of mechanisation on the farm.

The amusement alley, too, was a large one and toAvnsfolk and country dwellers alike found many places in Avhich to dispose of shillings and sixpences, which the raucous A'oieed “barkers” enticed them to spend in return for a glimpse at some so-called amazing show.

The weather was someivhat uncertain in the morning, but the afternoon was clear and warm and many people who had, in the morning, hesitated about attending the show, turned up in the afternoon.

The takings at the gates amounted to £340, compared, Avith £315 last vear.

EolloAving Avere the results announced after the “Guardian” Avent to press yesterday:—
