TRADITION UPHELD

THE SIXTY-SECOND STOCK DISPLAY BIG EXHIBITION ON THURSDAY IN A MUCH IMPROVED SETTING ENTRIES HAVE WIDE APPEAL

Enthusiasm needs a good cause on which to be based, and it is one of the characteristics of agricultural and pastoral associations . throughout New Zealand. Those who have charge of these organisations know the good cause they represent; they know they have the backing of the wise farmer and they are encouraged to carry on with their work. Nowhere is this more evident than in Ashburton County. There are three flourishing Associations at work, and each has built up for itself a tradition and succeeding committees have seen to it that'the ideals of the founders have been kept in the forefront of all their activities. For over 60 years the Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association has been promoting the welfare of the primary producer and its success has been its reward. Each year it endeavours to bring to the notice of its members, particularly, and the producers generally, something that will aid in bringing about easier methods of farm routine, placing the farmer in a better position to put on the market an article of even greater selling attraction than before. It recognises that times are rapidly changing as far as the overseas markets are concerned, that what was good enough even 10 years ago is not “good enough to-day and it has gone a long way to bringing the producer to a realisation of the fact that where once we had the field almost to ourselves, now we are faced with determined opposition. The Association’s sixty-second show will be held on the Ashburton showgrounds on Thursday and the indications are that the exhibition will be a success in every line of endeavour. It will be presented in a setting that will show many improvements, a considerable programme of alteration and reconstruction having been carried out to buildings in the last few weeks.
