WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.

WILLOWBY-EIFFELTON BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the AVillow-hy-Eiffelton Women’s Institute was held in the Willowby Hall, Mrs A. S. Hayman presiding. Motions of sympathy with Mrs Prattley, Mrs Noble, and Mrs Quinn * in their bereavements 1 were carried in silence. A letter of cheer was directed to Mrs Sheehan, who is indisposed. Reports on the half-yearly meeting of the Federation, held at Methven, were given by Mrs S. P. Taylor and Mrs T. Mac Kay. Miss Robins (A.C.E. tutor) gave an interesting talk on the prevention of goitre, illustrations with specially prepared dishes and recipes. Mrs J. R. Lattimore gave the “Golden Thread” talk on pioneers, and spoke of the early days of Canterbury, and the part taken by her grand praents, Mr ancf Mrs Banks, when a journey of 30 miles by bullock dray took 15 hours. Mrs Hawkins and! Miss Hayman were appointed sick visitors for the

month. Congratulation on reaching her majority were extended to Miss Dorothy Taylor. Mrs Quinn, Mrs Crossman, Miss Dorothy Taylor, and Miss Ngaio Chapman wore appointed a committee to prepare for Achievement Day. Mrs Quinn and Miss Hayman were appointed supervisors of the floral entry for the Agricultural and Pastoral Association Show. A novelty roll call, “Exchange of Plants,” was very interesting. The hostesses were Mesdamcs Pratt - ley, Noble, Lattimore and Mackay. The competitions resulted :—lnvalid’* trav, Mrs J. R. Lattimore 1. Mrs T. Mackay 2 • lettuces, Mrs H. Crossman 1, Mrs H.
