MUSICAL TREAT.
RECITAL* AT TECHNICAL SCHOOL PAUL SCHRAMM GIVES PROGRAMME. A musical recital of rare quality Avas given to an appreciative audience of Technical High School pupils yesterday afternoon when Mr Paxil Schramm the celebrated Austrian pianist, visited the school and presented a programme of typical classical compositions.
Mr Schramm, besides being a pianist of outstanding ability, is a noted conductor and composer. , In 1937 he travelled through New Zealand under contract to th© National Broadcasting Service and' gave many recitals over the air. Mr 'Scrhamm has now settled in this country and intends to devote a part of each years to giving recitals with explanatory talks on music, composers and the programmes to children of both primary and postprimary schools. He is keen to make contact with school children and give them the opportunity of becoming acquainted, jyitli really first-class music. Schools he has visited in New Zealand speak highly of his ability to interest- the children during the recitals, and this fact was well demonstrated by the appreciative hearing he received at the Technical School yesterday. The programme 'was as tollows: — Scarlatti, Sonata in one movement in E Minor; Gluck-Brahms, Gavotte; Beethoven, Contredanpe; Beetlioveii, Sonata in G Sharp Minor, Op. 27 (moonlight); Brahms, Intermezzo in E Flat Major, Op. 117 \ Lullaby); Grieg, “To tlie Spring”: Chopin, Waltz in D Flat Major; Chopin, Polonaise in 'A Elat Major. Explanatory notes were given bv Mr Schramm before each item.
