SPRING SHOW

FUNCTION AT ST. STEPHENS. FINiE DISPLAY OF BLOOMS. THE SUCCESSFUL EXHIBITORS. The annual spring flower show of tire St Stephen’s Parish, Ashburton, commenced at St. Stephen’s Hall this afternoon, and many blooms of very high standard were displayed. Besides the large collection of spring flowers, there were several attractive and well-laden * stalls, which did good business throughout the afternoon. A feature of the show was a. special decorated table competition, and the various displays beautifully arranged on the stage drew favourable comment from the many visitors. This competition will be judged : by public vote. The Rev. W. W. Avery’s exhibition of special bulbs was a popular centre of attraction. The. stalls were attended tis follow: Sweets: —Girls’ Bible-class (Mesdames J N. Jones and A. T. Smith) and Girls Club (Miss I. Nicholas). Flowers —Mesdames AV. J. Read, W. - Henley, E. Parian. Cakes— Ladies’ Guild (Mrs F. Curtis). Produce—Mrs J. Bland, Messrs R. Robinson and W. Hunt. Tea-room —Mesdames W. Speddmg and F. M. Mahoney and helpers. Mr Avery judged the flowers, and special awards were made as follow: Air J. W-.» Butcher’s (Christchurch) prizes for bulbs— Trumpets: H. E. Richards. Incomparabilis: OD. Edc. Barrii: D. Ede.
