BUTTER-FAT PAY-OUT.
INVESTIGATION PROMISED. <? ______ MINISTER AND ASHBURTON COMPANY. (Special to the “Guardian.”) TIMARU, This Day. In reply to a question regarding the payout for butterfat made by the Ashburton Dairy Company, the Minister of Finance (the Hon. W. A ash) Avho addressed a meeting at Temuka last evening, promised to make an investigation of the position and release a statement. The questioner asked if it Avas right that Clandeboye cream suppliers, having been bought out by the .Ashburton Dairy Co., should lose a farthing per lb for the season’s payout if they did not become shareholders. Mr Nash said there was obviously something AAgong. An interjector had stated that the suppliers had receded llkl. He Avas no+ prepared to criticise {the Daif.v Company or the grading, ‘because there might be a reason for the difference between what was receded by the suppliers and the average Dominion payout. Mr Nash promised to confer with representatives of the company and release a statement later. Another dairyman asked if the Government had considered giving « guaranteed price to farmers avlio supplied milk for town runs. “If a system can be worked out Ave will be glad to introduce it,” said Mr Nash. The milk produced for human consumption Avas liamdled by different methods from those used for milk for butter and cheese, but there Avas every desire to see that all producers Avere protected.
